And here I am for another tech review and today we'll be asking the question, ''Is the GameSir VX AimSwitch worth it?'' But first let's talk about what this product this and why you should, or not, consider buying it.
The GameSir VX AimSwitch is a wireless combo of a gaming keypad, which is basically half a keyboard, and a mouse that is compatible with all the popular gaming consoles such as the PlayStation 3/4, the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch. Although it also works on PC they are clearly pushing this to console gamers, saying that it'll improve their aim in shooter games.
Seeing the appeal of it I bought it for my Nintendo Switch and setting it up was quite easy. First I had to go to my Switch's controller settings and enable the Pro Controler wired communication. Then I connected the wired mouse to the keypad and the wireless receiver on the dock of the Switch. Finally, I just pressed Fn+5 on the keypad and I was ready to start gaming!
Playing on it is quite comfortable, the keypad comes with a detachable and slidable palmrest and the keys feel very light and responsive, also they have that anti-stress mechanical click sound that I just love. The mouse is also great and despite being made of most plastic it doesn't feel cheap at all. It's light which makes it easier to flick and its surface is very smooth and fits well on my hand. Also, when connected it has this awesome blue light that I wish the keyboard also had!
When you start playing with it though it might be difficult to figure out which key does what so I recommend downloading their app right away. You can connect the keypad by via Bluetooth by pressing Fn+4 and map each key individually, it even allows you to map two buttons onto a single key. You can also create several different profiles and change them while playing by pressing a combination of keys like Fn+Alt+2. On the left side of the keypad, there are four keys that you can use to adjust your HIP and ADS sensitivity which is super helpful on the first hours of playing with the GameSir VX AimSwitch.
But what about the mouse? Does it provide godlike aim on console and an edge over the competition? Well, if you're someone like me that is terrible at aiming with a controller having the possibility to play with a mouse is a godsend since I can actually hit other players more frequently now. However, it didn't turn me into a shooter's god. Also, don't expect it to function just like a regular mouse on PC since there is no mouse acceleration! At first, I was a bit annoyed but I quickly adapted to this situation by messing with the settings.
So, why should you buy a Gamersir VX AimSwitch? I bought this because I saw in it another possibility of playing games on my Nintendo Switch in a more comfortable way. My thumbs are getting better but I still can't stress them with long sessions of gaming with a controller. The second reason was curiosity. I think it's always fun and refreshing play games in a completely different way. Playing Breath of the wild with a keyboard and mouse is so much fun! It takes me to the time of when I used to play games like Skyrim on PC for hours.
So, should you buy it and is the GameSir VX Aim Switch worth it? For the price tag of 99,99€, the quality is definitely there and there isn't a single piece of this that feels cheap. Despite the lack of mouse acceleration, you can still aim with it quite well and after a couple hours of playing, you won't even miss it! It did help my aiming but I don't think it gave me a clear advantage right away over other people. It might in the long run but for a casual player like myself I will always be mediocre at games like Fortnite or Paladins, but at least I can now play them on a way I'm more comfortable with and have fun!
With all this said I think this product is worth it and I'm glad I bought it, it's been a while since I put so much money into something that seemed like a gimmick and turned out to be a winner. Super happy it!
