How I got Into Super Smash Bros.

How I got Into Super Smash Bros.

A new Super Smash Bros. game has been announced and I'm ready to board the hype train all over again! But for now, I just want to calm down and share a story about how I got into Super Smash Bros.

It all started in my first year of college in 2014. Back then I didn't even know that a new Smash game was about to be released and yet coincidentally I bought my first Nintendo 2DS. Since I only had Pokémon X I decided to hop on the EShop to purchase a new game, however, there was nothing to my liking except for a Demo of Super Smash Bros. 4 3DS.

I remember playing a lot of Super Smash Bros. 64 as a kid so, in theory, I should like this one too, right? Well, I did like it but the controls were a mess at first. Having to move your character with just the analog was very uncomfortable... However, the more I played the more comfortable it got and so I made the decision to purchase the game once it got released.

When I finally got it I was thrilled with everything it had to offer. The vast roster of characters and stages, the different modes, the music... everything felt so right! After a couple weeks of playing, however, I started to get bored. So, to fight this boredom I decided that it was time to test my skills online! Free-For-All was unplayable because of the lag so I went to For Glory 1v1 where the lag was kinder. I lost so many times though... But I was determined to improve! So, I crawled to the internet for some tips and tricks.

However, in my search I found something far more important than any guide or pro tip, I stumbled on The Smash Brothers Documentary. After watching it I was shaking with excitement because I didn't realize that Smash had such a deep history! Up until then I only liked the game and wanted to be decent at it but after I learned all about Smash's history, though it might be silly, I felt like I was part of something bigger.

It awoke in me a type passion that I don't have for other games, and that's why to this day Super Smash Bros is, besides Pokémon, the only franchise that makes me jump and scream every time they announce a brand new game.

And that's the story of how I got into Super Smash Bros.! Feel free to share yours!
